An ingredients list featuring Polish disco, ’80s Japanese pop and mixes from the legendary Paradise Garage in New York sounds promising from the starting pistol. Throw in Salford and Amsterdam and you know you’re on rock solid territory.
Boredom is Delphic‘s James Cook and Melodic Records label boss Andy Moss. What they have delivered here is a down-tempo monster of a track. Very much in vogue at clubs like A Love From Outer Space, ‘Geometry‘ chugs along in a stately manner, yet with a spring in its step. Double handclaps alongside the seething synths beg you to join in. Throw in an electro bassline and you have a hefty groove that just works; it defies you not to dance.
It’s not all electronic noodles, though. Indeed the driving force behind the seemingly spontaneous project seems to be about injecting human fallibility into what is already a dancefloor cut of no little heft. To that end, a faintly sleazy vocal drawls along with the cut glass percussion. A very fine, stylish and shiny effort indeed.
‘Geometry’ is out on Melodic Records, 30th September 2016.
