American circus punk collective Dalton Deschain & The Traveling Show have announced they will release the forthcoming Roberta EP, based around a circus-inspired tale and slated for release on October 28th. In the lead-up, they are releasing the highly animated single ‘Freakshow’ and we have the video premiere for the video a menagerie of live and animated footage above.
It’s soundtracked by an eccentric vaudeville rocker that spins somewhere between other punk cabaret acts like Dresden Dolls and Vermillion Lies and fuses it to a distorted post-punk rhythm that’s shifting time signatures has something in common with the work of the Cardiacs.
“This is the latest entry in the band’s ongoing horror-punk-antifolk saga about demon possession, circuses, and nuclear warfare. The Roberta EP tells the story of a trans woman living in the 1940s, who finds love with a stagehand for a traveling sideshow.”
