From the ashes of the sadly missed S.C.U.M. come Blueprint Blue, who are newly signed to the wonderful LuvLuvLuv Records and were recently hand-picked by The Charlatans‘ Tim Burgess to play at his Tim Peaks festival stage during the summer.
It may have been written with summer in mind, but ‘When There’s Sun’ is just the thing for these glorious early autumn days, when the sun makes an extended appearance during the day but then recedes into the night. Beautifully chiming dual guitars and an inventive bass line are the perfect foil for the laid back voice of Elliot Hayward, which is pitched somewhere between Simon & Garfunkel and Kings Of Convenience.
The track has a classic sound that is hard to pin down to a particular era, and some really lovely lyrics: “Even when the sun has gone/Let’s stay outside/The wind will cool us/As it dances with the tide.”
The band have just finished recording their debut album with James Hoare of Ultimate Painting.
‘When There’s Sun’ was released on 16th September.
