VIDEO OF THE WEEK #10: Living Dead Girl – Simulation [PREMIERE]

Living Dead Girl are an multi-instrumental two piece featuring Jonno Lloyd (guitar, bass, synth, programming, and backing vocals) and Jessica English (lead vocals, synth, piano, and programming).  Compared to the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack, their shuddering industrial gothic pop is laced with an unsettling yet oddly emotive charm.  We have the video premiere for their new single ‘Simulation’. Jessica English layers her beautifully delicate vocals over carefully produced bedroom electronica with industrial-pop production.

Here’s what the band say about the song:

“It was a track we wrote around the same time as our first single ‘Skylines’. When that first music video was being put together we always knew we wanted to do ‘Simulation’ next.  The song and its story were so visual in their origin that we knew right away what we wanted to see in that video.

It imagines a world where virtual stimulation strips us of personal interaction and expression, leaving us without a sense of realism or self.  The song explores the search for humanity amongst the artificial.  After a long search for the right director to work with, we went with fashion photographer and videographer Vasilisa Forbes, who helped us bring our imaginings to life.  The video juxtaposes a clinical, plain setting with a bright, vibrant, simulated world.  The two begin to blur as the video progresses, asking us to question which one is more real.”
