Mi Mye are back, and just in time for Christmas. Four months after the release of their excellent fourth album The Sympathy Sigh, they bring us their seasonal single ‘I’m Dreaming Of A…’ Sandwiched sonically – and geographically – somewhere between a Scots’ Sparklehorse and a West Yorkshire Will Oldham, ‘I’m Dreaming Of A…’ is a tender, transcendental thing of such great and resolute beauty. Out of the acute vulnerability of principal songwriter Jamie Lockhart’s physical and emotional pain emerges a woozy, dreamlike song that initially struggles to, but eventually manages to embrace a tentative happiness.
Beginning life as a musical vehicle for Lockhart, Mi Mye subsequently expanded into a five-piece band with the addition of Rob Slater, Daniel Charlesworth, Morgan Evans and Emily Ingham. Together they create a sonic world that openly acknowledges the sadness and suffering that lies therein, but somehow plots a way out of all of that sorrow with irresistible hope. Happy Christmas everyone.
The single will be showcased at Mi Mye’s Christmas show hosted by High and Lonesome on the 18th of December at The Brudenell Social Club, Leeds. This launch party promises an afternoon of Christmas Pies from the Brudenell’s new Pie Minister Kitchen alongside festive films before the music starts late afternoon and finishes at the perfectly reasonable time of 8pm.
