Track Of The Day #1035: Erin Rae – Wild Blue Wind

Out on tour around the UK ahead of the release of her second full-length record Putting On Airs later on this year, Erin Rae’s name is fast becoming known to a much wider audience. Hitherto highly regarded as a harmony singer – fellow East Nashvillians Margo Price, Anderson East, and Andrew Combs will all attest to her quality in that regard – Erin Rae is now shedding that second skin to establish herself as a bonafide country artist in her very own right.

If any such proof were needed, confirmation of her unquestionable talent can be heard on Wild Blue Wind, the second track to be taken from Putting On Airs – the first, Like The First Time, dropped a fortnight ago to widespread acclaim.

Those familiar country music staples of loss and yearning may well permeate Wild Blue Wind – beautifully accentuated by a suitably plaintive musical arrangement – but it is the purity of Erin Rae’s voice and the dignity she invests in the song’s sentiments that raises it way above and beyond the everyday.

Wild Blue Wind also lends itself to the title of Erin Rae’s current tour where she is backed by her band The Meanwhiles. A review of the Leeds show on 16.06.2017 can be found HERE.
