Newcastle-based noise pop trio Waves of Dread released their debut EP last month to nods of approval from fans of dreamy, lo-fi shoegaze. The bands latest single Lay has just been released with a video to boot. The two and a half minute visuals are complied of shots of Barcelona which frontman Nick JH describes as a “A bunch of footage I shot while I was stumbling around Barcelona, thick of Bloody Marys”. The black and white hue of the city streets passing by fit perfectly with the nostalgic haziness of the track, some of the footage is mirrored and kaleidoscopic which only serves to highten the experience. Taking cues from the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Ride, the band will be releasing more material in the coming months.
Nick says further of the track, “Barcelona is a city I hold close to my heart. I’ve been lucky in recent years to share some truly wonderful times there with people I love. It’s unfortunate that these memories can become tainted. However, my yearning to return to the place I consider my second home will always be strong. I will continue to make memories there. Lay is my love song to the city.”
