21-year-old tendai has returned with his third single ‘Lately,’ this week. Released via 0207 Def Jam, ‘Lately,’ is tendai’s attempt to write a soundtrack to his home city.
“Lately I have been dreaming about your love” tendai sings with haunting lovelorn emotion. Layered with skittering beats and winding keys, with a evocative atomosphrte ‘lately’ captures that sense of wandering through east London, earphones in. Inspired by the garage tunes he first heard in childhood – songs that defined an era and united a city – floating in and out of consciousness.
Talking about the track, tendai says:
“I wanted Lately, to feel like a soundtrack to London, walking on the underground, walking through the city. I grew up on house rather than garage but if you’re from London, garage is just there in the fabric of the city”
‘Lately,’ is accompanied by an equally artistic video from Ethan & Tom, who previously directed tendai’s ‘Infinite Straight’ video alongside work for the likes of Flohio, BERWYN, Ethan P. Flynn and Wu-Lu.
Just two singles into his young career, tendai has already become one of the most talked-about new names in UK music. Following the release of his superb debut ‘Not Around‘ and follow up ‘Infinite Straight‘.
