Known for her ferocious guitar and resounding vocals, Songwriter and producer TOMI has released her new track “Open Road” in light of the LGBTQ+ community on National Coming Out Day via her own record label In Between Records. Boasting a powerful sound of strong piano chords and a steady drum beat, TOMI’s vocals express a powerful meaning. She writes, “I came out at the age of twelve when I fell in love with my best friend. My mom found love notes and all hell broke loose. Coming out in a conservative suburban neighbourhood was an uphill battle.”
As TOMI plans to split profits for the LGBTQ+ youth community, she expresses her experience of growing up and learning about being open and honest. TOMI writes, “After I came out I found solace in music and leaned on it for honesty and security. Through the years of fighting to protect the LGBTQ+ community I learned a lot about resilience. Open Road is about that process – resilience, fighting for change and discovering strength in one’s differences.”
