Sophie Kilburn – Not Bitter, Just Bored

Derbyshire-born and London-based singer-songwriter Sophie Kilburn has released her new EP Not Bitter, Just Bored via Luna Sky Recordings. A five track collection detailing her journey through overcoming heartache, from the initial pain to rebuilding self-worth and confidence. The EP showcases feelings through the influence of 80’s pop frontrunners Blondie and Kate Bush alongside modern songwriters HAIM and Lucy Dacus

Each track holds a unique raw 80’s rock energy, though the EP’s lead single ‘Love Condition‘ takes the form of a raucous blend of guitars and hearty bass patterns that showcase a light-hearted side of Sophie’s songwriting. With ‘Love Condition’ aiming to empower those who are trying to find themselves, she writes “People are so quick to tell you how to act, how to feel and what you should do even if you aren’t asking for their advice. I just got desperate to break away from those voices. You should be the only one who decides the person you want to be. When tragedy happens, you question who you are.”

Sophie’s gritty blend of alt-rock-pop is out in full force throughout the EP. On ‘Afterthought’ and the powerful, take-no-shit anthem ‘20%’ you notice the hard working grunge element that makes this artwork so powerful. With her vocals showcasing a haunting vulnerability, Sophie’s heart wrenching honesty carries us through her journey of coming to terms with loss.

Not Bitter, Just Bored is an incredibly honest and personal offering from a songwriter who revels in digging deep into human emotions. Knowing exactly how to express her feelings and turn them into relatable odes to life’s traumas, Sophie Kilburn’s songwriting is a powerful tool within her artistry.

Not Bitter, Just Bored is out now on all streaming services.
