LIVE VIDEO: Emily Magpie – ‘Hotline Bling/Mind Mischief’ Cover

Emily Magpie are in the midst of producing their next project funded by Help Musicians and have got an EP lined up for release in Spring. Ahead of that, they’ve filmed some live sessions their new one features them performing ‘Hotline Bling/ Mind Mischief’ a Drake / Tame Impala mash up, watch it below.

They say: “I’d come across an Erykah Badu cover of ‘Hotline Bling’ and it felt like such a different vibe to the original which got me thinking, I love covers that are unexpected or flip the original song.. I feel like there’s a darkness and sadness to the track and lyrics, this jealous ex who’s being a bit desperate and unreasonable but the song itself sounds like this catchy pop- bop. So we joked we should make a doompop cover of it and started jamming it and totally loved it, then found it could slide into Tame Impala and that was that. People always love it when we play it as a surprise at live shows.”

“Emily Magpie is a dream pop artist and producer from Bristol with a unique ability to create glittering spacial soundscapes that shimmer endlessly as brooding swirls of electronics and effervescent melodies intertwine with songwriting delving into different dimensions.
Having been championed by the likes of Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6. Her track ‘Last Train’ received over 90,000 plays on Spotify and she recently signed with label Silent Kid.”

Spending the last few years playing solo as a support act for artists such as This Is The Kit and Let’s Eat Grandma, and everywhere from Green Man Festival and Boomtown Festival in the UK she returned in 2021 with a dynamic + exciting full band experience which has already played several sold out headline shows including Sebright Arms as well as Dot to Dot Festival and FOCUS Wales where the band were picked out as one of God is in the TV’s festival highlights.
