VIDEO PREMIERE: SOUKOU- ‘bloodline’

Berlin based artist, SOUKOU, aka Ena Soukou, makes her 2023 debut with new single ‘bloodline,‘ out on 24th February 2023. Today, GIITTV are pleased to premiere her stunningly honest debut video, celebrating triumph over trauma and freedom from the past.

Oozing with a soul-tinged splendour, SOUKOU’s powerfully emotive vocals are at the forefront throughout. Subtle synth-infused soundscapes slide in effortlessly underneath R&B-infused sensibilities, creating something truly mesmerising as a result. Talking about the single, SOUKOU explains, “This song is about generative trauma. Its about my grandparents, my parents and me. Its about healing and letting go of the stuff that doesn’t belong to you; about freeing yourself”.

SOUKOU, has been conquering the clubs of Berlin since the age of nineteen under the name Ena Wild with her fusion of techno and electronic beats, touring internationally with various circus productions with her self composed soundtracks. In debut single, bloodline, SOUKOU captivates listeners further with her unique blend of soulful synth-pop displaying soulful vulnerability an ebb and flow of intensity and triumphant musical and lyrical narrative.

Bloodline is the first single to be taken from SOUKOU’s forthcoming EP, due for release in Spring 2023. SOUKOU is now adopting more private tones. We are no longer dealing with a girl who has run away with the circus, but with a woman who is not afraid to deal with complex topics. The songs on the EP all revolve around one theme; family. Questioning at what extent we can detach ourselves from our socialisation; how love becomes hate without communication and asks whether the next generation can be freer if we manage to detach ourselves from our traumas today. For SOUKOU, this EP is an organic development and a liberation after five years of psychotherapy, illness, panic attacks and the search for oneself. These songs are the processing of generations of trauma; about war history, abuse, racism, fear and love.
