Sir Chloe is the project of vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Dana Foote and they have announced their debut album I Am The Dog, set for release on 19 May via Atlantic Records.
To accompany the news, they share new single ‘Hooves‘ and confirm support for a US co-headline tour with Phoenix and Beck alongside Japanese Breakfast, Weyes Blood, Jenny Lewis(dates below).
‘Hooves‘ is the first track to be taken from the debut album, whose creative contributors also include songwriter Teddy Geiger (Caroline Polachek, Sylvan Esso, Lizzo).
It demonstrates the band’s rich tapestry of gritty guitars, melodic chord shifts, and front-person Dana Foote’s nonchalant vocal delivery before diving headfirst into reckless abandon. The chorus is fabulously obscure and yet utterly intriguing:
“I don’t wanna hold hands
I don’t wanna hold hands
you’ve been chewing my hair
Over and over again”
Thematically, the debut album grapples with finding control in the innate chaos of life, highlighting and interrogating this tension, only to destabilize it and opt for chaos once again. Anchored by Foote’s emotional and dynamic voice, the album toes the line between expression and concealment, making a fetish of the unsaid with lyrics that are simultaneously frank and ambiguous.
