LIVE: Death Pill / Nervous Twitch / N/A Politically – Bradford, 1 in 12, 09/06/2023
Sometimes a gig transcends music. And so it was at 1 in 12 in Bradford on Friday night. My first time at the venue it was immediately welcoming, like stepping into your own community even though I had never been before. The main reason for attending was to see Ukrainian hardcore punk band Death Pill who were starting out on a few dates in the UK. The opener was hardcore N/A Politically, based in West Yorkshire. What a glorious racket!
Next onstage was Leeds band Nervous Twitch. I found myself standing beside them after their soundcheck and such was the vibe in the venue had a chat with them. In my hometown of Edinburgh, Nervous Twitch have a lot of fans and it was great to talk about their favourite venues in my home city. Point to note – Nervous Twitch were putting up Death Pill tonight, the support within the music community is never-ending.
Guitarist Mariana had been manning the merch table before Death Pill took to the stage. With articles in The Guardian and on the local BBC News page it was good to see the room filling up nicely. Death Pill play hardcore and the lead vocals were insane. This is ferocious music. Raw and visceral. Between the songs there was talk of their gratitude to be playing here. The joy in their faces to play lit up the room. Can we even begin to imagine what they must be experiencing in the Ukraine right now? After the set they posed for photos on the stage with I have to say, mainly female fans and they had time for everyone. What role models Death Pill are. Naturally this was an emotional gig. The utter joy of music pulling people together through the shared experience reached a whole new level in The 1 in 12 Club in Bradford on Friday night. Let The Music Play.
Death Pill have three more dates on this current tour. Details below:
12th – UK, Bristol, Louisiana 13th – UK, Brighton, Green Door Store 14th – UK, London, Lexington w/ Shooting Daggers
