NEWS: Jenny Hval shares ‘Female Vampire’ video

On 30th September, Norwegian singer and art-pop composer Jenny Hval is releasing her new record Blood Bitch, which, according to the artist, is “an investigation of blood.”  The audio for the ethereal ‘Female Vampire’ was shared last month and now the gothic lead track has an accompanying video directed by Jenny Berger Myhre.  The clip is in places inspired by the horror sexploitation films of the 70s and 80s that have also influenced the album as a whole.  It also has a distinctly DIY, low budget feel, but is no less hypnotic as a result.  Watch below.

Hval explained some of the concepts behind the video:  “What does eternity feel like?  How do you ‘live’ when there is no death?  Usually, the vampire is depicted as a lonesome, all-knowing and ancient creature combining violence, aggressive sexuality and deceitful youth.  The pack behind the video for ‘Female Vampire’ wanted to explore vampiric eternity in a different narrative: in a group of romancing friends.  The vampire friends move through their hometown of Oslo, partaking in public and private rituals of moving together.  We also wanted to combine ideas from old vampire trash movies and modern trashy iPhone videos, resulting in an enigmatic world of time-lapse like slow motion where everything is always moving, or moving on.  Not there, or not there yet.”

The artist is also heading out on a short tour of the UK in October, after appearing at End of the Road festival.  Details below.

4th September – End of the Road Festival
17th October – Stereo, Glasgow
18th October – Soup Kitchen, Manchester
19th October – Oslo, London
