Glasvegas – Shine Like Stars (Columbia Records)

glasvegas

Firstly it must be said how Glasvegas is arguably a fantastic band name. It is not your typical predicted mess that far too many indie compilations come up with in this day and age; it is mysterious yet distinctive and inevitably their music follows suit.

The chill out mood of ‘Shine Like Stars’ is one of the highlights to this track. Its calming yet up beat in exactly the right places; if this was undoubtedly their intention it has very much been exceeded.

Secondly the next blatant stand out of this track is leading man, James Allen’s outstandingly broad Scottish accent within his vocal. You are taken back by his hypnotic vocal tone; too some his voice maybe a tad strange but for others that is an unique trait and a voice to be reckoned with. Having such broad vocals distinguishes the obvious comparison to Twin Atlantic front man and fellow Scotsman Sam McTrusty. This in itself is an exceptional compliment as he too has a voice that sends his audience wild but let’s be honest, who does not like a beautiful front man with an overwhelming talent?

There is no doubt after honing a track like ‘Shine Like Stars’ that Glasvegas cannot be put up there with the amazing talent that Scotland seems to boast these days. A very different but mellow tune from this four piece from Glasgow, but indefinitely a classic for any music lover with good taste.
