Toploader return to the live stage following an eight year hiatus
Following lead singer Joseph Washbourn’s opera journey on ITV’s Popstar to Operastar, the Eastbourne four-piece return , with the ‘Only Human’ 16-date UK tour in October 2011.
The tour will kick off in Bristol on October 7, days after the soon to be announced, crowd-sourced third single chosen by Toploader fans is released. The second night will see the band play a homecoming gig in their beloved Eastbourne at Floral Hall and a special one-off gig at Newcastle’s historic Journal Tyne Theatre on October 15.
Toploader will play London on October 18 for an intimate gig at Jazz Café. The tour finale will see Joe, Dan, Matt and Rob play Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms on October 30.
The band, who took an extended hiatus from music following the success of their first two albums, recently reunited at guitarist Dan Hipgrave’s stag do and decided it was time to get the band back together. Months later, album ‘Only Human’ was conceived with a fresh sound that sees the melodic pop-rock outfit finally freed from the shackles of a major label and making the music they’ve always wanted.
Joseph Washbourn commented at the news of the tour: “The opera experience was great fun, but it is now time to forget arias and get back on stage with the band. This is the reason we got back together – to get on the road and tour our new material. It’s going to be a long month, we haven’t shared a tour bus for a while!”
‘Only Human’ saw the band work with producer Danton Supple (Morrissey and Coldplay) and produce an album full of potential pop classics. The debut single, ‘Never Stop Wondering’ became the unrivalled soundtrack for Sky Sports and the BBC, providing the anthem for major sporting events such as the FA Cup, Formula One, Cricket World Cup and Rugby Six Nations. Follow-up single ‘A Balance to all Things’, firmly cemented the band’s rebirth by returning to national radio playlists and receiving rave reviews across UK media.
