Today, the organization behind Secret Cinema launched The Other Cinema – a global network of pop up cinemas looking to bring back a sense of community, passion and a social experience to cinema-going. The Other Cinema will screen one beautiful and vital film each month in a mix of unique and non-traditional venues including former picture palaces, town halls, libraries, churches, parks, youth clubs, universities, schools, hospitals, prisons, oil rigs, army camps and many more.

Fabien Riggall. Creator and Founder of Secret Cinema and Future Shorts, said, “The Other Cinema will bring communities together through film allowing anyone, anywhere to run their own cinema and be connected to a global network. The Other Cinema will meet once a month on the same night all over the world. We want to bring back the idea of local cinema and allow the most important films both old and new to get seen and talked about.”

The Other Cinema will launch on Valentine’s evening, 14the February 2012, with one of the most romantic and beautiful films of all time, David Lean’s “Brief Encounter”. This event will be a live and immersive cinematic experience produce by Future Cinema, the creators of Secret Cinema.

Simultaneous screenings on 14th February of “Brief Encounter” will take place in Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham and Norwich as well as other locations to be confirmed around the UK and globally.

Future Cinema will produce the official launch event at the stunning former Picture Palace, The Troxy in the East End of London. We will return the Picture Palace of East London to its days of glory with usherettes and an audience encouraged to dress in black-tie each carrying a flower for a lover or a stranger.
