Way back in 2004 I remember hearing a track called ‘The Rat’ by The Walkmen, which bowled me over. I bought the album from whence it came and found it hugely disappointing. Then, in 2008, they released the album ‘You & Me’, which also impressed me but in a very different way. It was dark and, mysterious and drew me right in. Then in 2010 along comes ‘Lisbon’ to thoroughly disappoint me again – what are these guys trying to do to me?! Well album number seven, ‘Heaven’, came out this week and it hasn’t disappointed me but, at the same time, hasn’t wowed me. Anybody out there with an alternative view on this bunch of indie Yanks, I would be keen to hear. For the rest of you, sample the attached.
