North Walian Duo Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin aka Golden Fable have kindly given us the pleasure of premiering the video which accompanies their new single ‘Sugarloaf’ which is a wonderful taster of their forthcoming debut album, ‘Star Map’.
‘Sugarloaf’ is a perfect introduction to the duo’s unique world, showcasing the angelic vocals of lead singer Rebecca Palin and the modern pastoral elegance of Golden Fable’s sweeping instrumentals. Golden Fable weave together both their classical and experimental pop influences to craft an arresting, life affirming sound. The myths and legends of their corner of North Wales weave themselves into lyrics whilst ‘Sugarloaf’ itself was inspired by an ascent up the mountain of that name which forms the backdrop to the Green Man Festival. To complete the localism theme, the video for ‘Sugarloaf’ was shot locally using local filmmaking talent. Watch it here:
Golden Fable are a self-contained industry based close to the foothills of the mountains of North Wales, Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin record and produce all their music themselves within a home studio, drawing in local talent of all kinds to help to achieve their artistic vision. Thus cello on the track is played by local musician Burt Hill and many of the instruments played on both the single and across the album came from a local instrument repair man whose speciality is finding odd artefacts and bringing them back to life. Both the single and the album (which will feature a handmade limited edition sleeve created by local artists) are released on the band’s own Full Of Joy Records.
Taking this organic influence, the twist in the Golden Fable sound comes from an equal love and interest in the experimental music of the likes of Four Tet and Caribou and the classical training that both share.
Golden Fable’s delightful debut album sees the light of day on the 10th of September more information regarding purchasing the album can be found here: http://goldenfable.bandcamp.com/album/star-map
