Bummer Album Of The Week: Bowling For Soup – ‘Lunch. Drunk. Love.’

At the turn of the century there were several bands playing high-end power pop punk, with Blink-182 being top of the pile, along with their other side ventures, of which Boxcar Racer was the most essential, so go find their album.  In the slipstream middle section you found bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41 who were also credible for a while, but maybe not for too long.  Then at the bottom of that pile was Busted/McFly who had no place in rock n roll then or now.

One band that preceded all those was Bowling For Soup, even if they never did rise to prominence here.  Well those Texan funsters are still going, with album number twelve out next week.  It’s entitled ‘Lunch. Drunk. Love.’ and fans will love it because they sound exactly the same as they did 20 years ago and exactly the same as the other eleven albums.  They have tried to drop some acoustic numbers in, a bit of piano and even some whistling.  All that might be adventurous for you fans and the album is quite amusing, but for the rest of us it’s time to yell STOP – Bummer Album of the Week.
