Track Of The Day #544: WILD BALBINA – Winter Trees

Girl fronted Spanish troupe WILD BALBINA released a 10″ mini album back in June on Elefant Records, and its rather criminal that we are just getting around to recognising their charms today.

‘Winter Trees’ is the pick of their cuts so far, a discordant fuzz pop beaut with hints at 50s drive ins and the backstreets of Brooklyn, rippling as it does with waves of skittery instrumentation and infused with the double melodic tangle from head Balbina girls Antia & Marta that drips with sweetness and attitude in equal measure. A cut that delightfully and unremittingly pirouettes somewhere between the surfy sneer of the Vivian Girls and sweet C86 of the Shop Assistants.Frankly Ruddy Marvellous!

WILD BALBINA head over to the UK in October to play shows in Cardiff a slot at Carefully Planned Festival and an Elefant party in London.
