On 8th July Richard D. James, better known as electronic producer Aphex Twin, is set to release his new EP Cheetah via Warp. In the run up, he’s unveiled his first official music video for 17 years. It’s for his latest single ‘CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ],’ a looping, trance-inducing affair filled with light, skittering beats and bass.
The video has been directed, edited and produced by 12-year-old YouTuber Ryan Wyer, who runs the channel epic1:40d Gaming. It’s a strange experience that’s characterised by random bursts of fast and slow motion, as well as flaring and colour inversion. James’ instantly recognisable grininng face is superimposed on to various people, including young children, evoking the disquiet from his last official clip for ‘Windowlicker’ almost two decades ago.
