NEWS: Agnes Obel shares new single ‘Golden Green’

Danish singer-songwriter Agnes Obel is set to release her new album Citizen of Glass on 21st October via Play It Again Sam.  Recorded and produced in Berlin, Obel said upon the album’s announcement that: “I worked with the title from the very beginning to push myself to do new things.  I wanted to push myself conceptually from the starting point, to push the glass theme throughout the songs in different ways – in the lyrics, in the instruments – to do things in a very new way.  As an album, it feels bigger to me, a lot bigger.”

Having already shared the first single from the album, ‘Familiar,’ she’s now unveiled a second track from the record.  ‘Golden Green’ is typically ethereal but is punctuated by plucked strings and arpeggiated sound.  Obel says the track is about “how the mind can develop stories and change reality whilst under the influence of envy […]  In a sense it is a negative longing with a creative potential for good and/or bad – novels are written in the mind from this perspective.  The song is inspired by the book ‘Envy’ from 1927 by the novelist Yuri Olesha.”  Listen below.

In November, Obel will also be heading out on a small, four-date tour of the UK.  Details below.

26th November – Anson Rooms, Bristol
27th November – Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London
29th November – Town Hall, Birmingham
30th November – Albert Hall, Manchester
