Glaswegian art rockers Franz Ferdinand have returned with their first new music since their collaboration with Sparks – FFS – last year. ‘Demagogue’ is an anti-Donald Trump song and is being released as part of 30 Days, 30 Songs, a collection of tracks written and recorded by bands and musicians for a Trump-Free America. The series has already featured the likes of Aimee Mann and Death Cab For Cutie.
The track sees the band taking down Trump across staccato riffs and electronic bleeps, in a manner that might well be deliberately aiming for slightly obnoxious. Established graffiti artist Shephard Fairey has also been enlisted to create a poster for the single, which vaguely echoes the style of Obama’s iconic presidential campaign poster but in a more aggressive, full-on way. When asked for comment on the record, Franz Ferdinand simply said “he’s a demagogue.” Listen below.
