We are big fans of Sonny Winnebago here at God Is In The TV, and are so pleased today to premiere the video to his new single, ‘Lemonade’.
Drawing inspiration from 1970s influences including Harry Nilsson and Cat Stevens, Sonny Winnebago is the stage name of Welsh-Australian pop troubadour Harvey Jones.
You can read our recent interview with him here.
‘Lemonade’ is produced by Charlie Francis, and features session musicians Davey Newington (Boy Azooga) and Matt Evans (KEYS), Welsh Music Prize winner and nominee respectively.
With a slice of his childhood spent making lemonade in Perth, Harvey eventually relocated to Wales, swapping lemons for guitars.
Occupying his free time by perfecting his songwriting craft, Winnebago has moulded a sound that is bright, avant-garde pop; even when exploring the sombre themes in life.
Layered with a warm-hued melody and Winnebago’s soft vocals, his new infectious, slightly trippy offering Lemonade is released by his new label Phwoar & Peace
“The concept was to create something a little nostalgic. I used to make lemonade as a kid growing up in Australia, so including a lemonade stand in the video was a great jumping-off point.,” he says of the video.
“I also really love the cinematography of Napoleon Dynamite and Wes Anderson films, so we sprinkled a lot of that throughout. I also wanted it to have a simple, childlike ‘DIY’ feel, similar to 90s/2000s cartoons like Rugrats & Recess.”
