Multidisciplinary artist heka has announced the release of her new single, ‘(a) wall’, her first since her signing to Balloon Machine Records. The track was co-produced with Ed Tullet (Novo Amor, Hailaker) and features Jemima Coulter (Hailaker) on trumpet. The song is from heka’s forthcoming EP, (a), due out on May 19.
‘(a) wall’ is haunting and spectral song, a beautifully engrossing sonic tapestry. heka’s voice combined with Coulter’s trumpet offers a transfixing and intriguing duel that draws the listener in, pulling them into a space in between. This is fabulously immersive music that transfixes and transports you in really alluring ways. We look forward to the full EP with anticipation.
Speaking about the song, heka reveals: “I guess the song is an ode to anger. Not in an absolute sense but as the cathartic alternative to the numb powerlessness that can take over and swallow every other emotion when we find ourselves in a painful or shocking situation. ‘Hate’ in this sense is seen as a way to eventually move past the grief, especially in the face of someone else’s lack of action, or evasiveness, which can be overwhelmingly paralysing.”
‘(a) wall’ is out now.
