NEWS: details announced for Deer Shed: Base Camp Plus

When: 30th July to 1st August 2021
Where: Baldersby Park, Topcliffe, Nr. Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England

In keeping with many other UK music festivals last month Deer Shed Festival had to cancel this year’s event due to the financial uncertainty in the continuing absence of a government-backed COVID cancellation insurance scheme. However, the organisers are now delighted to announce details of Deer Shed: Base Camp Plus, an intimate socially distanced camping festival which will take place in Deer Shed’s usual North Yorkshire location on what were the original festival dates of 30 July – 1 August 2021.

When compared with the full 15,000 capacity Deer Shed Festival, Base Camp Plus will be a smaller event within what co-directors Oliver Jones and Kate Webster describe as being “tolerable limits in terms of financial risk for us as an independent promoter.” This year’s event will run on very much the same lines as last July’s successful Base Camp, socially distanced camping weekender – whereby each individual 12m x 12m camping pitch contained its own personal portaloo and washing facilities – but this time around with a huge plus in the form of a full Main Stage, complete with live music, comedy and shows.

The music line-up for Deer Shed: Base Camp Plus has an incredibly strong female emphasis featuring as it doesJane WeaverDream Wife and Porridge Radio as the event headliners and an excellent undercard that includes W.H. LungBig JoanieKaty J PearsonThe Lounge SocietyBullNew York Brass BandThe BaghdaddiesSerious Sam Barrett and Niki Stevens.

Furthermore, John ShuttleworthMark Watson and Angelos  Epithemiou will headline the live comedy and shows line-up, with the likes of Flo & JoanHuge DaviesHarriet Dyer, Shelf, This is Your TrialCard NinjaPrivates, and Musical Bingo also in attendance. More comedy and shows are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Oliver Jones says: “Base Camp 2020 was loads of fun, and a welcome return to something as close to normality as we could achieve last July. Let’s face it though: it was still far from normal.

Base Camp Plus offers us the chance to get back to what we love doing, in programming quality entertainment for our audience in Baldersby Park. We’re delighted to have secured three female-fronted music headliners, who have all been formidable in their continued output during the COVID-19 crisis, and a brilliant line-up of some of our favourite comedians.”

Deer Shed organisers are currently planning to adhere to the Stage 3 lockdown restrictions that are due to come into force on 17th May in England. This means that limits on capacity will remain, with some social distancing and face coverings in covered areas. If the Government proceeds with the unlocking as planned, however, the event rules may be relaxed in line with national restrictions.

Tickets will go on sale on the morning of Tuesday 18th May. Full information on the event and a link to sign up to join the queue to get tickets can be found here:
