NEWS: Nina Nastasia shares two new tracks today

Earlier this year we reported that the Los Angeles-born singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia was returning after a 12 year hiatus with what she described as her first solo album, Riderless Horse. The record was released via Temporary Residence Ltd on 22 July.  The vinyl version of the album is available from tomorrow, 4th November.

It was Nina Nastasia’s first release since her sixth record Outlaster had come out in 2010 and the first record not produced by Kennan Gudjonsson. Nastasia had quit music because of the psychological abuse she had endured from Gudjonsson, her partner of 25 years. He killed himself on 27th January 2020.

Today, Nina Nastasia continues her extraordinary return with two new songs – ‘Whatever You Need To Believe’ and ‘Too Soon’ – both of which were recorded during the same sessions that produced Riderless Horse.

Speaking about these songs, Nina Nastasia says:

‘Whatever You Need To Believe’: “It can be annoying to hear people talk about what exactly happens to a person when they die and then suggest things to do for that dead person in order for them to smoothly travel to the next destination in the afterlife, so they’re not trapped in a holding pattern. First and foremost, why do I have to take care of their travel plans. And second…well…what exactly have you chosen to have happen?”

‘Too Soon’: “Aging is cruel. Nature is cruel. Beautiful but mean. Unlike this song, I won’t find some tall, nice grass to lay myself down in to die. I will go out screaming and kicking. And if science can find some solution for the pains of aging and the bummer of dying, I’ll sign up for the clinical trials, but that’s a different song.”
