Located next door to Leeds Grand Theatre, the Howard Assembly Room forms part of the Opera North Centre. Having been restored to its original Victorian splendour, with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, arched windows, and gothic motif decoration, it provides a 350-seat flexible performance space which plays host to “a year-round festival of music, performance and ideas, in the heart of Leeds.”
And the Howard Assembly Room at Opera North has added further events to its 2023 programme, bringing music from around the world, folk traditions from the UK, film screenings and a live score, chamber music, workshops, and more to this historic part of West Yorkshire.
Amongst the many exciting new events that have been scheduled for next year are:
- Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory leading a star-studded 9-piece band in an expressive live score to BAFTA winner Paul Wright’s 2017 film, Arcadia (3 March)
- The wonderful musician and songwriter from Cavan, Ireland, Lisa O’Neill (16 March)
- Hack-Poets Guild (17 March): Marry Waterson, Lisa Knapp and Nathaniel Mann leading a five-piece band in folk songs from broadside ballads, with letterpress printing displays, and a documentary film
- The highly acclaimed Canadian-American saxophonist, multi-reedist, and composer Colin Stetson returns to the Howard Assembly Room on 2 May
- Sacred music, dance, and prayer from Tashi Lhunpo Monks of Tibet from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery (3 June)
