Video of the Week #253: Grrrl Gang – Rude Awakening

Our Video of the Week comes from Grrrl Gang, part of the stable of ace label Trapped Animal Records, home of Tape Runs Out. This is the second single to come from their new album Spunky! out on 22nd September.

The triumvirate are from Indonesia, and after moving to the capital Jakarta, were able to record their debut LP.

The video is part of a set of films that comes as part of the album release that started with their debut single ‘Spunky’ that came out at the end of May.

They have this to say about the project: “‘Rude Awakening’ is the first chapter of the movie; Bella, an introverted 22-year-old girl decides to come to a house party. This is her only chance to validate herself that she’s part of the peers. After a series of events that challenged her self-esteem, she had to find a way to overcome her discomforts to survive the night. She got nervous because the party was packed with people. Her friend left her to be with other friends. She’s left alone among other people. She made several attempts to enjoy the party and mingle with other people but failed. She got overwhelmed and decided to go to the bathroom to get to be with her for a while to clear her head“.
