Video Of The Week #258: Half Happy – Boozy

Half Happy release their brand new single, Boozy. A love letter to your local pub decorated by Rose on exquisitely wistful vocals framed in a shimmering backdrop that’s both illuminating and gradually envelopes into Half Happy’s most expansive moment yet, with chunky and widescreen guitars spiralling into a atmospheric storm cloud, underscored by grand percussion. Capturing the joy and nostalgia of nights out wonderfully. Half Happy have also released a music video, showing off a slice of their cool live performance. Watch it below.

Frontwoman Rosalie Miller has said of the track, “Boozy was my little love letter to the pub and ultimately to those comforting moments created by my favourite people. It’s about that unique atmosphere and company that can completely dissipate a horrible day, and that wistful longing you feel when you need that night to happen.”

Cardiff’s Half Happy previously released singles, ‘Runaway Girl‘ and ‘Lovesweep’, Runaway Girl and its nostalgic, coming-of-age video took the unassuming band to new heights. The band cemented their friendship in university over mutual obsessions with Tame Impala, Foals and Radiohead, and followed bands such as Superfood and Wolf Alice from the start. These 90’s babies mould these influences into something fresh which hooks new fans and loyal local followers alike.

Half Happy plays around confidently with fun dream-like vocals that stick to tight indie drums that thump below guitar riffs that walk the line between heavy and heavenly. The four-piece certainly aren’t afraid to follow their musical instincts and seem to eb and flow through the genres whilst maintaining a signature sound. They sold out their debut show and headline slot in Clwb Ifor Bach and have since been gliding through the live circuit, supporting the likes of post-punk ones to watch English Teacher in a sold out London Showcase at Omeara. Half Happy open our anniversary show at the Gate in Cardiff on September the 30th!
