Directed by Roger Appleton, Get Back, a documentary about the real story behind Liverpool’s musical output, was very recently released on DVD and digital formats. Aiming to get beyond the myth that Liverpool’s music begins and ends with The Beatles, it highlights the long heritage of groups and artists that have made it big right the way through to the present day. The documentary features live performances and interviews with a variety of figures from the city’s scene, including Echo & The Bunnymen, The Coral, The Wombats and Cast.
Among the interviewees is Paul McCartney, who in previously unseen footage discusses his early days of songwriting. It’s a short but illuminating watch that sheds some extra light on the iconic singer-songwriter’s craft. Watch below.
