Track Of The Day #956: Clarence Clarity – Vapid Feels are Vapid

With a sound that gleefully mashes up the melodies of Prince, fractured funky beats and the flamboyant sweeps of MGMT : ‘Vapid Feels Are Vapid’ is the latest boldly brilliant cut from Clarence Clarity, and it’s out now Deluxe Pain via Dummy Records.

Watch the playful video above that somehow manages to harness the retro feel of virtual reality with present day mobile technology.

Clarity says it’s “a love song about boundless internet fantasy versus the trappings of real world relationship boredom. “ “Time won’t let me go,” he emotes in a ghostly vocoder chorus that sounds like an off-cut from a Timbaland session, above a gauzy mirage of glittering samples and flamboyant synth sweeps, before a stuttering dancefloor beat donkey kicks you onto the dancefloor and back to the future. It’s the sound of hyper-real emotions flooding over you as you allow yourself for a few minutes at least to pretend to find emotional solace in the multi-media bubble where there is none. Plus with a Trump Presidency in the offing, we feel like joining him in his magical musical party down into the time wormhole!

The release succeeds the ‘SAME’ EP, five internet-ready tracks that sound exactly the same. Clarity broke onto the scene following the release of his debut LP NO NOW.
