GAGGLE

Gaggle are pleased to announce that their first headline show of 2012 will be at Village Underground, London on 4th July. Live shows by the riotous 21-strong female choir are talked about for months after and this special gig will be no different.

With their debut album ‘From the Mouth of the Cave’ ready to hit shelves on June 4th, they have also unveiled a hypnotic animation to accompany anthemic new single ‘Army of Birds’, out May 21st through Transgressive Records.

As well as playing the Village Underground in July, Gaggle will also be staging a series of events in London that will see them ‘pop-up’ across the city, sometimes performing and always marching. The events will start the week before the album is released culminating in an album launch on Friday 8th June. 12 events for 12 tracks plus each event will be specific to a corresponding album track. All will be revealed in due course…

Written by chief Gaggle Deborah Coughlin and Simon Dempsey, ‘From the Mouth of the Cave’ is a thrilling and unique debut. Flitting between genres, it is sometimes sonorous and other times abrasive, but always at the centre is that fascinating instrument of the choir, pushing themselves to their collective and individual limits as Deborah plays them.

The record is ultimately “about being honest about things from a female perspective – because they happen to be written by a woman and sung by women.” Gaggle is not an act of positive discrimination nor simply a feminist collective. It’s not even a cohesive unit – except in that moment of performance, where it’s an army in uniform.

What Gaggle is however, is something different, something exciting and completely now.
