Track Of The Day #176: Woodpecker Wooliams – Gull

Woodpecker Wooliams has been one of our most-loved discoveries of the last few months. Who’d of thought it? Some girl who’d taken herself off to Brighton to learn the harp… But this is no prissy affectation; this is warped and dystopian, all the more horrific for Gemma’s voice, which slides from little girl playground to tea-with-menaces within a sentence. That the subject of all this is a sordid little tale of everyday nasty violence come back to haunt you just adds to the shudder factor. And it’s somehow re-imagined by a bird as it observes this wonderful vignet of humanity? Come again? Harps will never sound the same again

No gulls were harmed in the making of this video
