Preaching From The Pews: DENA

denaNearly fifteen thousand people can’t be wrong, can they?  If the number of likes you acquire on Facebook is the true barometer of both your popularity and likelihood of success in this world then DENA is surely destined to be a huge star.

Having made the journey from the Balkans to Berlin in 2005 with a head full of MC Hammer, Michael Jackson and a strong belief in vibes, Denitza Torodrova quickly immersed herself in the musical creativity of the German capital. With her self-confessed love of jazz and building upon a solid foundation of beats, end of the century R&B, rap and hip-hop, DENA has developed a contagious sound that is ultimately far more pop than bebop.

Knocking loudly on the door of one million YouTube hits, the video for last summer’s ‘Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pool’ – shot in a Neukölln flea market which reflects an everyday truth at stark odds with the song’s title – and live appearances at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas are firm testament to her global expansion.

DENA is a voice for a new MTV generation. It can be heard here on ‘Bad Timing’, one of eleven tracks that will appear on her début album Flash due out on 11th March through Normal Surround/!K7 Artist & Label Services.
