December 2015 sees the release, on vinyl, of the first full-length album in twenty two years by the seminal Welsh band, Datblygu (Develop). Peel favourites and cited as a influence in recent times by adventurous Welsh artists like Gwenno and R.Seiliog, Datblygu have been at the vanguard of Welsh experimental culture since their inception in 1982. Bending Welsh culture out of shape with their startling Welsh language trilogy – Wyau(1988) /Pyst(1990) and Libertino(1992). With their latest album Porwr Trallod, (Tribulation Browser) they manage to find the fine balance between the rawness and directness of their early releases now emerging with a new progressive, haunting stripped down sound. Teaser ‘Llawenydd Diweithdra’ (The Joy Of Unemployment)is the aural equivalent of a ominous phone call from the undergrowth, a Welsh language spoken word polemic over bubbling static.
Datblygu have been invited to perform at celebrated writer/comedian Stewart Lee curated ATP Festival which is taking place on the 15th – 17th April 2016.
Porwr Trallod’s release will be proceeded by a listening party at Carmarthen’s Parrot Music Bar on the 28th November where it will be played in its entirety and will be followed by a Q&A with the band themselves. More details to follow.
