NEWS: Lunar Bird and Tom Emlyn are GIITTV showcase artists performing at Focus Wales on the 5th May

We are so pleased to announce that our artists for this year’s Focus Wales showcase festival in Wrexham this May are emerging Welsh artists  Lunar Bird and Tom Emlyn. They will be performing sets at the Parish venue on the 5th of May, amongst the likes of dust, Heaven for Real and Boy with Apple.  With Tom playing an electric set at 7.25pm followed later by Lunar Bird with a full band set at 9.15pm. Lunar Bird and Tom Emlyn are two Welsh acts we have championed over the last few years. Tom has been absolutely prolific over the past year releasing a debut solo album News From Nowhere and acoustic follow up I’ve Seen You In Town. A master storyteller with wit and depth, the Swansea-born Cardiff based songwriter has enjoyed airplay and support from Radio Wales, BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Horizons, R.E.P.E.A.T. fanzine, Welsh Connections and more. He has recently released the ‘Scrounger’ EP and two single s ‘Like a Cigarette’ and ‘Broken Mirror’ ahead of an archive album Return Journey Revisited: Scaredycat Vol 15 released early May. Tom’s FOCUS Wales gigs are:
Friday May 5 at 7:25 pm The Parish
Saturday May 6 at 7:10 pm The Royal Oak
You can read our recent interview with him here. Formed in Italy in 2017 by singer-synth player Roberta Musillami and bass player-visual artist Eliseo Di Malto, art pop collective Lunar Bird moved to Cardiff and released the EP Daydreamer in 2018. Preceded by several singles, Lunar Bird’s eponymous debut album (2021) was well received by audience, press and DJs. Their atmospheric mixture of ethereal Dream Pop and mesmerizing indie psychedelia immersed in charming visuals draws attention from the likes of Amazing Radio, Reform Radio and BBC Music Introducing in Wales, with the single ‘Venilia’ making it into The Welsh A-List, on rotation on BBC Radio Wales for four weeks. Their recent ‘Creatures’ is the gorgeous single taken from Lunar Bird’s new album The Birthday Party, Lunar Bird’s new album, available in digital format from 28th April. Fluttering in the arms of lucid synth lines and a stately percussion, the opening bars nod the head at the recently passed Julee Cruise‘s Twin Peaks theme ‘Falling’. Before unfurling through sinewy keyboards that sound like organs, swirling dreamy backdrops and Roberta’s enveloping big hearted vocals, that bare more than a passing resemblance to Kate Bush, or Goldfrapp invested with the feeling of being on the outside looking in, his is a wonderful self empowered hymn for the outcast. We look forward to the release of their second LP this Spring with anticipation. For more information on Focus Wales: www.focuswales.com
