Track Of The Day #543: Jimmy Hickmott – Teacher

Bright, perky and tuneful ‘Teacher’ is the first in a series of videos from Jimmy Hickmott a London songwriter informed by ‘his love of Paul Simon and his years as a DJ playing out uplifting soul, reggae and hip hop.’ A tender foot stomping slice of late summertime folk-pop that’s literate soulfulness is redolent of the likes of The Housemartins, check out the video below an affectionate pastiche of Paul Simon’s ‘Call Me Al’ here:

‘Jimmy Hickmott releases his debut album ‘Nice Try Sunshine’ in September. A DIY record in the Marketstall Records tradition (look out for coconuts, dustpan and guitar case percussion), ‘Nice Try Sunshine’ will be preceded by a couple of rather interesting videos (one of which is online soon) as well as a selection of hand-picked summer gigs that will let people get an idea of what Jimmy’s music is about – positivity, melody, charm and joy.’

Here’s a link to Jimmy’s bandcamp where it’s possible to order ‘Nice Try Sunshine’ in advance of its release:
