Track Of The Day #933: Sounds of Sputnik – Blizzard [VIDEO PREMIERE]

Russia’s Sounds of Sputnik have gifted us the video premiere for their track ‘Blizzard’, an affecting gaze-instrumental, laced with tumbling arpeggios, wooshing FX pedal rushes, and haunting strings.  It’s lifted from the New Born album (Moon Sounds Records), released earlier in 2016.  Watch the video above.

Set in the scenic surrounds of Blackpool the black and white video was filmed and produced by Jason Sheppard, here’s what he says about its production:

“I usually don’t don’t look at a sound literally when it comes to ideas.  It’s usually a feeling I get from the song or a word/sentence that captures my imagination.  In this case, the song and the title couldn’t escape me. That mesmerizing melody and title had me captured.  I love the sea most when there’s a storm, it’s when it’s most a live, mix that with the iconic sea front of Blackpool, England.  It lent itself to the music and atmosphere.  I loved capturing people’s reaction to the storm and sea plus my love of documenting people mixed together, gave me the perfect solution to Sounds of Sputnik ‘Blizzard.'”
– Jason Sheppard

Sounds of Sputnik is a project featuring Ummagma and involving UK producer Fran Ashcroft, widely known for his work in the psych rock scene and with Damon Albarn (Blur), Lords of Acid and Lee of The La’s.
