EXCLUSIVE: Stream Slurs’ new EP ‘Badmouth’

After unveiling their debut EP Northern Electric last year, Newcastle alt-pop band Slurs are gearing up to release their sophomore effort Badmouth on 15th October digitally and on cassette via The Kids Hate You.  The record marks the first official release from Fintan Dawson and Mark Simpson that features Bong drummer Mike Smith, signalling a shift from the drum machine-powered nature of Northern Electric towards a more slacker-pop sound.

Indeed, across its six tracks the trio harness a vital sound that embraces the fuzziness of shoegaze while also injecting some of the angst-ridden nature of post-punk and the best hooks of Britpop, wrapped in a charmingly DIY aesthetic.  Smith’s drums also help to lend more raw power to their alt-pop vibes.  As a result, sonically it sits somewhere in the sweet spot between Weezer, Pavement and Mudhoney, which, honestly, could never be a bad thing.  It’s a welcome return from the trio that showcases how they’ve evolved and refined their sound over the last year or so.  You’ll find it hard to Badmouth this one.
