TOTD #35: Billy Vincent – Feathers

billyvincentpress1

Billy Barratt and David Vincent have slung their names together and called their band Billy Vincent, what clever chaps.  Their debut album “She” comes out in May and is an interesting set of tunes, which I have seen labelled ‘dirty folk’ somewhere and I like that!.’Feathers’ is a lovely ditty and reminded me a little of good old Frank Turner.  You will probably disagree.

The Bummer Album Of The Week award went to a so-called super group not so long ago and this week’s finds a similar target.  Rocket Juice & The Moon is a very pretentious name for a band and I’m here to report that the pretention doesn’t end there.  Made up of Damon Albarn, Flea and some Nigerian drummer, the album spews out all sorts of random noise, jazz, funk and chunks of World Music.  Stick Erykah Badu on a few tracks and everybody will say what an inspirational groundbreaking piece of work we’ve created.  It’s pretentious shit!
