Wire are back, though in truth they have never really been away. A couple of hiatus in the early ‘80s and then during the ‘90s aside they have remained in the very vanguard of post-modern pop-punk experimentalism now for nigh on forty years. Theirs is music for the future. And where they lead, others merely follow.

News has just broken of their next album; it will be self-titled and number thirteen in what is a magnificent studio lineage that dates back to 1977 and their debut offering Pink Flag. Like its predecessors it promises to step outside of any preconceptions you may have of the band and the music that they produce.

In anticipation of the forthcoming record’s release in April, Wire have shared a track from it. Clocking in at just a little over two minutes ‘Joust & Jostle’ is a concise history of energy, melody and highly contagious joy, its brevity merely heightening the sense of expectancy for the new album.

Wire will be released on 13th April 2015 via pinkflag

To coincide with Wire’s release, the band will embark upon a 17 date tour of the UK, including five consecutive nights at The Lexington in London. These five nights will be the fourth incarnation of Wire’s DRILL : FESTIVAL (the previous three having been held in London, Seattle and, last December, in Brighton). In contrast to its predecessors, this will be a single-venue event at which Wire will headline every night with a different band supporting them.
