PREVIEW: Journey To Nutopia

PREVIEW: Journey To Nutopia

When: 16th November 2019
Where: The Edge, 79-81, Cheapside, Digbeth, Birmingham, B12 0QH.

In a little over three weeks’ time a Journey To Nutopia event will be held at The Edge arts and community space in Birmingham to celebrate the 30th anniversary of DiY Sound System. Founded in Nottingham in 1989, DiY Sound System was one of the UK’s first house music sound systems, created as a positive reaction against the then growing number of rave promoters whose primary aim was purely one of financial gain.

Journey To Nutopia – “a desire to move towards a better place”,  and taking its name from the conceptual country founded by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1973 – was brought to life in 2018 with its inaugural event being held at the Lunar Festival. Since that time further, similar events have been held around the Midlands and London, including ones at this year’s Moseley Folk & Arts Festival and The Cockpit in London.

The 30th anniversary celebrations begin in earnest at 10.00pm on Saturday the 16th of November with music courtesy of Journey To Nutopia co-founder Richard Norris (The Grid, Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, The Time & Space Machine), and will continue unabated until 04.33 hours the following morning with Jack and Grace Sands from DiY Sound System.
